Carbon Fibre Table
I designed this occasional table as part of my final degree submission at the Royal College of Art. The theme of my submissions was based on aviation/military aesthetics and material technology.
The table is constructed from a carbon fibre honeycomb matrix composite material similar to that used in aviation and Formula 1. It is therefore very light and strong. At the time it was also very expensive!
A halogen lamp unit is contained within the structure and the emitted light is reflected onto the table's surface by a mirrored surface. This light is powered by an auxiliary power supply housed in a streamlined form.
The design was very well received and I had several requests to sell it however I declined and it is still in my ownership.
I suspect that this was the first ever table produced from such a material.
